2022.01.25 01:25 MonotoneTanner Will a QA always been “seen” as a QA when moving to dev at the same company? Need advise
I’ve come across a dilemma I need help with.
Company A (new company) has offered me a dev role
Company B (my current company) has offered me a dev role +10k salary more than Company A.
I am currently a QA at Company B. Part of me feels like Company B job offer seems like the no brainer. I know many of the devs from my time as a tester, I know the product well, etc.
But my worry is that given I have been a tester at this company for quite some time that that will always be “seen” as a QA person and I will struggle to break those chains. I have read the horror stories of QA struggling to prove themselves and being seen as “lesser than”
I like the idea that at Company A I can come in and only be “seen” as a dev.
Is this a sound concern to have when making the change to dev at your current company or am I being crazy? Thanks

2022.01.25 01:25 BenMalisow WannaBeA -- First Class
We just completed the first class of the new WannaBeA CISSP course tonight...and I have to say I think it went pretty well! I have to thank all the student volunteers who participated; great insights and knowledge, and wonderful discussion and questions! I had a blast, and hope you all did, as well. Hopefully, this will lead to improvements and honing of the material, and future classes will be just as much fun!

2022.01.25 01:25 griphen Unable to measure NPN transistor continuity with multimeter
TL;DR - Beginner having trouble checking continuity across transistor leads with multimeter
I am getting started exploring electronics as a hobby, so I purchased an Elenco AM/FM radio kit to work through as a first project. One of the first steps involves measuring continuity across various components with a multimeter, but I am not getting a reading on any of the transistors.
I am using a Cen-tech P30756. Started with the 2N3904 NPN transistor (standalone, unpowered), set the dial to measure ohms, contacted the emitter with the negative lead and the base with the positive lead, and it reads an open circuit. I cycled through the various scales with the dial (2000k thru 200) and no change. Switched the +/- leads and no change, tried collectobase both ways no change, and just for good measure emittecollector and no change, always open circuit.
Tried several other transistors in the bag with same result so it seems like its not dud transistors. However to rule out the multimeter, I measured resistance of the resistors and recovered spec values within tolerance. Also checked the diode and read 1.2 megaohms in one direction and open circuit in the other.
Could anyone help point me down the right path here? Seems like it's not the transistors, and might not be the multimeter, so user error??

2022.01.25 01:25 CeejHeroOfTime Young girl surviving amidst pandemic in pre-industrial America
I believe the book had the year it was set in as the title. (I think it starts with "17") I must have read it in ninth/tenth grade (2007/2008) The book is about a young girl and her fight for survival during an outbreak that killed her entire family, as I remember it was quite gritty. Thanks for your help!
